From attempting to make Vodka in their parents’ basement to distributing it across the country, Chestnut Hill Academy Alumnus Bryan Quigley and his brother Matt Quigley are taking the alcohol industry by storm.
At a young age, Bryan displayed the spirit of an entrepreneur. “My brother and I were always together, always making money in some capacity, whether it was selling candy or selling baseball cards,” Bryan said.

After graduating from college in New York with a dual major in finance and Spanish, Bryan started his career in finance with a good job as a stock trader. Despite his job stability as a trader, Bryan explained that he “knew that [he and his brother] wanted to go into business together sometime later in life.”
Although Bryan moved to Spain, and his brother moved west, they ended up in Pennsylvania. “One day,” Bryan explained, “I was in the car with [my brother] and said, hey Matt, you know, now that you’re home, what are you gonna do?” Matt responded, “What about making vodka?”
“It just felt right,” explained Bryan.
With no background in brewing alcohol, they turned to Google to find out where to start.

The brothers began to experiment with the distillation process. They went to local farms and grocery stores to source fermentable products, and they soon landed on corn. “We ultimately settled on corn because it had a natural sweetness that created the flavor profile we were looking for.”
In their parents’ basement they began the distillation process, unbeknownst to their parents. Their makeshift distillery included “a keg that we outfitted with a copper arm and an electrical circuit.”
This plan of quietly running a distillery in their parents’ basement didn’t end well, though. “When they came downstairs and found our lab, my father was livid. He was more angry than I’ve ever seen him in his life,” said Bryan.
They created a business plan and sought out investors. While many investors were interested in their new business, they initially fell short of the financial capital they needed. One lucky break came when a potential financial backer stumbled upon their business plan at a holiday party.
When it came time to grow the business, the brothers’ roles were clear, “[Matt] said, you know, well, my job is to make it, your job is to sell it.”
Fast forward to today, Stateside is growing, and it’s growing fast. “It’s just chaos. It’s good, but it’s just wild,” said Bryan.
Stateside is sold in 49 states across the country, with Utah being the next launch state. “We finished this year close to about six million cases, and we think, conservatively, next year we’ll do about twelve [million].”
Company personnel is growing rapidly too. “We have about 280 employees,” explained Bryan, “and that’s growing, like, we have forty open positions right now.”
Stateside is looking to go international, too. “Were starting to explore exporting to different countries, primarily the Caribbean Islands and Latin America,” said Bryan. Next, they’re looking to make a partnership to begin selling Stateside in Europe.
“We just created a team that has successfully gotten us into big box stores.”
From basement experiments to nationwide success, Bryan and Matt Quigley prove that bold ideas and relentless determination can truly distill greatness.
