The Los Angeles Dodgers rolled through the San Diego Padres to move onto the NLCS. While the Dodgers moved on, the New York Mets demolished the Philadelphia Phillies’ dreams of winning the World Series. In this series, the La Dodgers beat the New York Mets in game 6, and the La Dodgers won the National League Championship and are onto the World Series.
The New York Yankees rolled the Cleavlend Guardians in game 5 to move onto the World Series. Many players from the New York Yankees showed up, but one of them, Juan Soto showed up in the top of the 10th inning in game 5 to hit an absolute bomb to right center. This brought the New York Yankees to the World Series! The New York Yankees have not been to the World Series since 2009.
The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Yankees in game 1, 6-3. Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off grand slam for the first time in MLB postseason history, giving the Dodgers a late lead. The Dodgers won a crucial game and took game 1 in the bottom of the 10th. Heading into game 2 the Yankees wanted revenge. However, the Dodgers closed the game early in the 3 inning. The Yankees had a late-game spark but could not get any runs to catch up in the 9th inning with bases loaded. In game 3, the La Dodgers started strong with a Freddi Freeman two-run home run. Freddi Freeman has tied Yankees all-time legend Bobby Richardson. In game 4, the Yankees went down by 1 with a score of 2-1. Anthony Volpe with the bases loaded swung at a slider and rocked it 390 feet over the left field wall. That was basically a game, with a score of 11-4 and the Yankees won game 4 to extend the series to game 5.
In game 5, the Yankees started early with back-to-back home runs by Jazz Chisholm Jr and Aaron Judge. Then the Yankees scored 1 run in the 2nd and 3rd inning to make it 5-0. Then in the 5th inning, the Yankees made multiple errors from Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole. This returned to haunt the Yankees because Gerrit Cole gave up 5 runs in the 5th inning. When the Yankees scored 1 run in the 6th inning, the La Dodgers came to life in the 8th inning. And the La Dodgers showed up with 2 runs of their own to make it 7-6. Then the Yankees had bases loaded with 2 outs and Anthony Rizzo struck out in the bottom of the 8th inning, the Yankees did not score and were forced to score in the 9th inning. But Walker Buehler closes the door against the Yankees and strikes out Alex Verduego to win the World Series.
“It’s not how you start the season, it’s how you finish. If you wind up helping the team make the playoffs, that’s what you play for. You don’t play to put up your numbers, but to try to get a chance to make it to the World Series.” Albert Pujols states. Many teams had a great playoff run. But the Los Angeles Dodgers had the better run and won the World Series vs the New York Yankees.
