As anticipation grew before the match you could see the determination in Sean Brett’s eyes, his entire family and all of his friends sat mat-side waiting for the moment when Sean Brett would pin his opponent in dominant fashion. That moment came in the 2nd period when the score was 10-0 Brett, and the crowd erupted in cheers for Sean.
Sean Brett amassed a career milestone of 100 wins this Saturday, December 14th becoming just the 13th wrestler in SCH and CHA history to win over 100 matches in their career.
Sean has been wrestling since he was four years-old and his love for the sport has been on display for the past four years here at SCH where he has been the lifeline of the program. Head wrestling coach Joe Aversa said Sean’s value in the program “can’t be quantified. You know he walks in and there’s an aura around him. He’s gonna be remembered at this school for a long long time.”
Danny Brett, Sean’s older brother and the assistant wrestling coach, compared the feat to scoring 1,000 points on the basketball court. He said, “It’s every wrestler’s dream to accomplish what Sean just did.” He added, “Sean makes me proud every day as a coach and an older brother.”
Tommy Brett, Sean’s other older brother and assistant coach said that “the whole wrestling world is excited for Sean” and that “there isn’t a happier older brother in the world right now.”
Sean’s dad Daniel was ecstatic after the pin. He said, “It’s a blessing to have all three of the boys together.” He added, “The boys are always competing, whether it’s over a piece of meatloaf or a pin in a wrestling match.”
Sean himself said it felt “amazing to have all his supporters there” and that “getting 100 wins was a big relief,” adding “wrestling has impacted my life in ways beyond the mat.”
Sean spoke about the fact that both of his brothers are his coaches. He said they push him to be better every day and that “it’s awesome to have both of my brothers in the room with me.”
Sean’s teammate Nasir Yard said “When I first joined the team he welcomed me with open arms” and “it’s really nice to see him finally get his flowers.”
But as Coach Joe put it, “He’s not done. Today was 100 but we wanna get that number up to 130 or 140.”
