Once again, the Devils continued their stretch of dominance, with a 70-47 dismantling of the Tatanall School on Wednesday. The win pushes the Devils to a 10-1 start, giving them a great start as time runs out before the Inter-Ac season begins.
Those wins have been massive, but with the Inter-Ac about to begin, concerns of a ‘trap game’ coming for the Blue Devils began to rise, worried they’d be too focused on the future and drop a game.
Despite that, head coach Julian McFadden quickly explained how the team would keep themselves composed, saying, “We’ve just kinda been in a mindset about one game at a time, from the game itself, it’s just about understanding what makes us good at basketball.”
SCH was coming off a big victory against Carver on ALS night, and another big win against Christo Rey just two days prior, bringing concerns about the team’s energy against Tatanall.
Junior Alex Ormond commented on that, saying, “If we keep energy, [they’ll] be good because we know we can do the rest.”
Tatanall is a team that likes to play a very physical brand of basketball, which SCH isn’t unfamiliar with; they’ve played and bested teams such as ANC, who were incredibly physical and played at the rim.
When asked how to best oppose and beat teams who play physically, McFadden said, “It’s about bringing the physicality to them. Most teams that are physical, try and out-physical you first.”
McFadden then continued, speaking to the team’s gameplan and mindset entering the game, as he said, “You gotta come out physical, so they know they can’t push you around.”
SCH certainly did that, as the defense was stingy early on, racking up a multitude of steals, and shutting out Tatanall throughout the entire first half, taking a 17-0 lead.
They continued to build a lead, with their impressive defense holding Tatanall from scoring until back-to-back three-pointers cut into the Devils’ lead midway through the 2nd. SCH refused to let Tatanall get anything started, grabbing multiple steals and turning them into transition points.
As the dust settled, SCH walked out with a massive 70-47 victory, pushing them to 10-1, as they look to a big game against Conwell-Egan Catholic this Friday, right as break begins.
The game is scheduled to be a whiteout game, with a large crowd. Conwell-Egan Catholic, who stands at 4-0, marks another talented team for SCH to try and beat.
The game will be live on Gametime Sports!
