22 SCH Model UN student-delegates ventured to Center City last week to attend the Ivy League Model UN Conference. Organized by the Penn Model UN club, ILMUNC hosts over 2,000 delegates from all over the country and the world.
On Thursday afternoon, SCH’s group took the train from St. Martin’s station to Jefferson Station. The delegates stayed for two nights at the Marriott, where the conference was held. They had the opportunity to explore the area, and dined at locations such as Reading Terminal Market.
Each day, attendees convened in three-hour committee sessions, in which they gave speeches, talked to other delegations, came up with practical solutions, and voted on resolutions. Each general assembly committee had over 100 delegates.
This year, SCH represented Ukraine, which required extensive research as well as care in handling sensitive topics. The topics that they debated were all pressing issues in today’s world. SCH’s club spent weeks preparing for the conference to make sure Ukraine was well-represented and eminent in proposed resolutions.

“Speaking in front of a large group of people really just takes a lot to build self-confidence, to go up in front of as many people as you do in ILMUNC and to really just put yourself out there and make sure you present your ideas really well,” said sophomore Maya Artis, who attended ILMUNC for the second time.
The Model UN club is now preparing to host our second SCH Model UN Conference in April. Come to the meetings at activities block on Tuesdays if you want to attend!
