To find service in a school setting is quite a rarity; however, at SCH it is a staple of what the school stands for. Service at school is more than just completing assignments or doing whatever seems convenient, it is about making a real change in the school community and having a desire to help others. Whether it be simply helping out at local events or recycling around campus, service gives students a chance to develop important skills whilst also giving back to their community.
Senior Michael Glennon is a three-year member and veteran of the service council at SCH. When asked about his involvement in service council he said, “I love service Council. The group of people is just amazing. Everyone works together to improve our community, and I love it.”
Some of their activities include recycling, mentorship of Middle Schoolers, ECC assistance, and selling goods around the school to fund the shipping of support boxes to the military. Additionally, the service council at SCH is an award-winning club. In early 2024, SCH’s service council won the Philly Service Award. For this win, they were gifted a generous one thousand dollars. This award was based on their work assembling backpacks full of goods for homeless Philadelphians.
