As Genevieve sprints across the track you can see her vibrant braides swishing in the wind as if they are flying. As she crosses the finish line you can see the look of relief cross through her face as she notices the other contestants still running.
Genevieve Mitchell is a rising 6th grader who is very passionate in track. She believes that it can fit any talent, including running, jumping, throwing, things that anyone can be good at if they work hard at it. Genevieve feels like this is one of the many sports that fits her because there are so many different things included that there is always something else to do when you are feeling overwhelmed and/or upset.
When Genieve started running in January 2025, it was hard to fit in because most of her track community had been there their whole life. But then she realized that it was not that hard to make friends in track because everyone was very welcoming. She soon found friends. Being behind motivated her to work harder and catch up to the rest of the group.
This summer she competed in UAG championships, the 100 in shotput, and for districts she did shotput again in 100 and 200. Genieve said “The one hundred is a easy but hard race and you really have to dig deep down and push very hard. For the 200 I didn’t really want to do it cause its another hard race and you have to give your all on the turn and then you really have to push hard on that last straight away it was a very accomplishing moment when I made it to regionals because I never thought I would make it because there was a lot of doubts for me and then I really made it.” She was not able to go to regionals because she was on vacation in Florida while it took place.
Genieveve will start again with track back in September and is hoping to have a successful season.
