The athletics department is dealing with a persistent lack of space. SCH teams are forced to routinely split up practice fields, particularly during the busy fall season.
The constant demand for field time, caused by a large number of teams (17), means that available areas are consistently packed, which creates somewhat of a difficulty for the Athletics Department.
The daily schedule is a “challenging task,” according to David Wilson, Director of Athletics. “Mrs. Keough does a great job; she talks with all the coaches and lets them know their schedules,” said Wilson.
“Every season, especially fall, we have to share so many fields,” said Keough, who is the Associate Director of Athletics. She added, “certain teams can only be on specific fields, based on who’s home between Upper and Middle school every day.”
Coaches are given daily access to the schedule, which ensures equitable field assignments and rotations. Despite the preparatory challenges, the scheduling relies heavily on collaboration with the coaches: “The games dictate who, what, when, where, why, and the coaches are flexible and roll with it; we make it work,” Keough said.
