At 10:00 am on a cold Sunday many students are still asleep or just waking up, but in a small gym in the suburbs a young man rallies his teammates, preparing them for the practice ahead. His voice is loud and vocal but methodic at the same time. The team listens and takes his voice to heart, knowing that with his leadership, and with each other, they will accomplish what they deserve and more.
That young man is Ha’oa Bode, a SCH senior and the student president of SCH. He arrives at school every day with a smile on his face. Likewise, he arrives to baseball practice with a determined look on his face ready to lead his team into battle.
For Ha’oa, leadership started at home. “Doing small things like taking out the trash and walking the dog helped me stay disciplined.” He has done these small tasks since he was a kid. As a result he began to see how discipline was a great way to become a leader and lead by example.
Now, as he finishes his senior year of high school, Ha’oa is a well respected member of the SCH community. His hard work was rewarded in the beginning of senior year when Ha’oa received an offer to play Division 3 baseball at Miscordia, a true testament to his hard work and dedication. Now he aims to help lead our varsity baseball team to the Inter-Ac championship and state playoffs.
Ha’oa’s leadership skills have not only affected the team’s culture but also his fellow captains. “He’s a great leader and it compels me to lead more,” said senior captain Rory Finn. Rory was one of the many members of the team that gave high props to Ha’oa.
Besides from his leadership on the field, Ha’oa is also a great leader in the classroom. He always has a smile on his face and encourages others to be their best.
