Wallenteer? Revivalist? Country fans went crazy this summer with Morgan Wallen and Zach Bryan having concerts in Philadelphia. Although both sing the same genre of music, the artists differ in many ways.
Many SCH students had the opportunity to go to one of the concerts; some even attended both.
Neeve Doherty, a junior at SCH, was lucky enough to buy a ticket off of her friend to see the Zach Bryan concert August 6th. Neeve shared that she only paid $150 for her ticket. She also purchased a Zach Bryan sweatshirt costing $90. Overall she spent $240, which is a steal, especially for an artist this popular. She is also a fan of Morgan Wallen, and stated his music is “More pop-country” while “Zach releases have a folk-country vibe.”
Morgan Wallen had roughly 40,000 fans come to see him perform live, one of them being senior Macy Moderski. Moderski had the luck of attending both concerts this summer and raves about her experience with both. “Both artists were amazing in concert, although Zach Bryan has always been over Morgan Wallen for me,” she said. Macy spent $300 on a Zach Bryan ticket and $250 on a Morgan Wallen ticket. She only got merchandise from the Wallen concert, a sweatshirt costing her $80. Her overall spendings were significantly more than Neeve’s, adding up to $430 for both experiences.
Senior Kenna Quinn, an avid music listener, attended the Morgan Wallen Concert with her family. She bought her ticket for roughly $200. “I’m not sure the exact price because it felt like forever ago,” she said. She also bought a sweatshirt after the fact: “I regret not getting it at the concert because when I went to go buy one after, the prices increased like crazy. I ended up spending $110 on the sweatshirt itself!”
This summer was jam packed with country music blasting at every gathering, and it definitely helped that both artists were in town. Morgan and Zach have a large fan base in Philadelphia, which sends all country listeners into a spiral, having to choose one or the other, or both.
