Ava Lanzetta’s commitment to Marist University this August came after a long and thorough recruiting process. Throughout the process, which began her junior year, Ava reached out to over seventy schools, visiting almost twenty, and spent hours each weekend editing film and talking to coaches on the phone.
Ava also advised seniors looking to commit to a college to “be open-minded” and cast a wide net.” After all, Marist wasn’t even on Ava’s radar until Mrs. Kimberly recommended she check it out.
Mrs. Lanzetta (Ava’s Mom) detailed how she would record film at every tournament, then Ava would edit the film and send it to coaches. Mrs. Lanzetta described her role as Ava’s “cheerleader” throughout her recruitment.
Athletes from SCH don’t often commit to college for volleyball. The last girl to commit from SCH was in 2021. Ava was set on the goal of playing Division 1 volleyball, and through hard work, support from her family, and determination she achieved her goal!
