Last weekend– the Junior and Senior class attended Prom at the URBN Navy Yard location. The venue was gorgeous: a large, industrial space with a view of the Delaware River. Many students had an overall good rating of the evening. Here is a breakdown:

Tickets

Students had to purchase a $100 ticket to attend the dance. Many people paid double the price for their date. There was much debate over whether or not this was too expensive.

For example, eleventh-grader Sylvia Landis said, “I thought the tickets were expensive in addition to the other costs I had to spend…Like on my dress, shoes, and nails.”

In contrast, eleventh grader Anderson Swanger said, “I obviously did not want to pay $200 for me and my date, but with the coach buses and great venue I cannot blame them for making it that price.”

Pictures & Transportation

A pre-prom reception was held in the cafeteria instead of the courtyard because of the rainy weather. However, everyone was free to take pictures wherever they liked. Students were not required to attend until 5:30 when bus boarding began.

Everyone traveled together on Coach buses to and from the dance with a designated “bus buddy.” This was a safety precaution and an easy way to keep track of all 300 kids.

Prom!

At Prom, students had the option to dance, eat, play cornhole, use the photo booth, or record a 360 degree video.

Appetizers included jalapeňo poppers, enchiladas, vegetables, and chips. Dinner consisted of tacos, chicken nuggets, and more.

After eating, most people headed to the dance floor. The music was relatively good, featuring currently trending songs as well as older dance classics. Eliot Villasis’s crowd surfing also made a very vibrant imprint on everybody’s minds!

At 9:45, the juniors and seniors began to board the bus again and head back to school. This pretty much completed the eventful night!
