SCH upper schoolers value their long lunch

SCH+upper+schoolers+value+their+long+lunch

At SCH, students are given just under an hour for lunch, but that time’s value is far greater than a period for them to eat. The students use their time to participate in other activities outside of lunch, such as ping-pong, soccer, basketball, wiffle ball, and much more. Although all these sports activities are different in their own unique ways, they all share a common goal: bringing students together in playful competition.
Competitive sports activities are especially helpful because they provide a short break from school. When asked in an interview, students who played these sports said that these activities are not only exciting but help distract them from the stress of schoolwork.
Tenth grade student council member Joe Pieczynski said, “I enjoy playing ping-pong during lunch because I’m a competitive person, and ping-pong is an easy way to compete without actually having to put too much physical tear on yourself and can distract me from school during lunch.”
Basketball is another popular sport, which is played during lunch in the Kingsley gym. Tenth grader Anthony Trunfio commented, “I enjoy playing basketball because it is very competitive, and it is a sport that includes teamwork.”
Students also enjoy spending time outside during lunch. Ariya Goswami ‘26 shared her thoughts: “I enjoy sitting outside because of the nice weather in the spring. It is also fun to spend time outside with my friends.”
The most popular outdoor recess activity is soccer. Ninth graders Matthew Lee and Christian Demarco said, “Me and my friends like to play soccer during lunch, we’ll bring the soccer ball to school and play on the 2017 field, it’s definitely great because it’s fun to get a break from school with my friends.”
Lunch time is an extremely versatile period, when students can both get fresh air, have fun with friends, and escape the stress of school.
