This summer, Michael Mellor, SCH senior and owner of J&M Property Management faced the challenge of building a mini golf course to restore the old beaten down one at Blue Bell Camp in Blue Bell, PA.
Mellor, a local teen entrepreneur, is eager to take down any obstacle he faces and is determined to apply his skills to become the best in the business. He started his business in the beginning of high school. Then, by sophomore year, as Mellor stated, ”I got fully into it, wanted to grow [the business].”
This August, Mellor was given the opportunity by a local summer camp to reconstruct their entire mini golf course. This was his first time facing a job other than landscaping. He was confident in his skills and prior experiences and knew that he would succeed.
Mellor said, “when the owner asked if I knew how to build the course, there was no doubt in my mind that I was going to give in to this opportunity.”
Hunter DiRienzo, Mellor close friend and employee stated, “I did not know what to expect the final results to look like, but I could not wait to test it out.”
He knew there were going to be many obstacles ahead of him during the tearing down and reconstruction of the course, but he accepted the challenge and dove in head first.
Mellor explained, “there were difficulties working with the nails and wood in the rainy wet conditions they were in.”
The first day Mellor spent time tearing out the entire old course. On day two he layed out the wood frames and glued them with turf, and on day three he cut the holes and made the final touches.
Mellor ended up finishing this project in three days. He said, “I was very surprised I got through all of the work that quickly, with the course still coming out very nice.”
DiRienzo expressed his opinions on the final product, saying “I can not believe Mellor was able to complete this homemade innovation of a mini golf course.”
