April 5th
China announces retaliatory tariffs on the United States, matching the 34% that the Trump Administration imposed on them.
April 9th
In the morning,
Tariffs on many of the United States’ trade partners have officially gone into effect. Notably, European goods will receive a 20% tariff, and Chinese goods will face a 104% tariff.
Later that day,
Trump announces he will put a temporary pause on all reciprocal tariffs for the next 90 days, bringing them down to just 10%.
April 10th
The Trump administration clarifies that the Chinese tariffs will total 143%, including reciprocal tariffs and base tariffs.
April 13th
The Trump administration announces that there will be an exemption on electronics imported from China, notably including devices made by Apple. However, they clarify that these are a temporary exemption and tariffs will come to effect later.
