On October 19, 2025, the Louvre museum in Paris, France was robbed of multiple precious jewels of historical importance. At around 9:30 in the morning, two people dressed as construction workers got out of a truck in front of the Louvre.
They climbed a ladder which was attached to the back of the truck, a common sight in Paris, to enter the museum on the second floor. This entered them into the Apollo Gallery.
After destroying glass display cases and stealing eight precious jewels, the thieves climbed back down the ladder, where there were people waiting for them on motorized scooters.
Experts say the total value of the stolen items was approximately $102 million.
Although the success of this heist could be attributed to the speed, it could spark ideas for heists in other museums, like the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
On October 26, the police arrested suspects trying to flee the country. Although they captured the suspects, the police didn’t say if they salvaged the jewels.
