Highschool Student at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, Abdoul Diallo, has made his mark in the fashion scene in and out of school.

An SCH Student, Abdoul Diallo, has jumped into the fashion scene at SCH by thrift shopping and showing everyone that thrifting is an affordable fashion statement. Abdoul began his thrifting journey last year after getting inspired by an upperclassmen. Abdoul saw a style that he liked and began going to thrift stores to try and match it while also being affordable. Abdoul began going to local thrift stores such as Good Will, Salvation army, and other local small thrift stores. Abdoul wanted to achieve an old retro 70’s/80’s theme. Social media such as Instagram and Tik Tok helped him find styles so that he could shape his own.

Last year upperclassmen Wyatt Lament was a big role model for Abdoul. Abdoul gave credit where credit was due and said, “Wyatt Lament had a really good style that stuck out to me.” Abdoul also touched on how supportive Wyatt was saying, “Wyatt told me some good places to look at and helped me find a style that suited me.”

Abdoul began hunting for clothes that matched the retro look he wanted to pull off. He went to different thrift shops around Germantown, sometimes not finding anything, but stayed determined while looking for what he needed. Abdoul would go with friends to try and find new clothes that satisfied what he was looking for. He wanted to find older clothes that would match the retro theme he was looking for. This was not a very difficult task because these thrift stores are filled with older clothes people don’t want anymore but Abdoul took appreciation to them.

Brian Zalasky, an US English teacher and Abdoul’s soccer coach, who happens to be quite stylish himself, talked about how Abdoul’s style inspires people including himself and how clothes never really go out of style. “The great thing about fashion is that it’s cyclical so things come back into style” Mr. Zalasky also said,”I wore a pair of curduroys last week because I saw Abdoul wearing them”.

Abdoul plans to continue his fashion journey the rest of his life and build upon his style. Thrifting is an amazing way to save money while in college and just generally so this is a good skill for him to be practicing at such a young age.

Abdoul’s style has definitely caught many eyes in the SCH community. Even Abdoul’s advisor Katy Friedland agreed with that. She gave a positive quote speaking about his fashion choices at school. ”He always is in dress code and finds creative ways to express himself while following protocol.”
