Throughout the week, SCH students have been skipping lunch, ignoring homework assignments, and doing whatever it takes to find the Devil on the Level. Not only are students enhancing their observational skills in their search, but they are also competing for the coveted prizes that come with a victory. The victor earns a Devil on the Level winner shirt and pin, and a treat for their whole advisory to share. Throughout the competition’s three year history, however, no freshman has ever won the prize. That was, of course, until Penn Ruebensaal’s victory on Tuesday.
For Penn, victory did not come without a serious time commitment. He had to dedicate a significant portion of his free time during the day to his search. “We were looking at break and lunch,” stated Penn.
Once he found the devil, Penn knew to take a photo next to it and send it in so he could receive his reward. He was pleased that the large amount of time he spent during his search had been worth it. “I was quite relieved, as we’ve been looking for a while, and I was quite happy,” said Penn.
In finding the devil, Penn became the first freshman to win in the history of the competition. His victory will grant Dr. Richard’s advisory with a prize, and likely give the freshman class a boost in confidence as the week progresses.
SCH students will continue to be dedicated in their pursuit of the Devil on the Level for the rest of the week. As a winner, Penn offered them a piece of advice. “Look everywhere and don’t stop.”
