The recruiting process is stressful

Almost every high school student-athlete that wants to play their sport in college goes through some sort of recruiting process. Whether it’s for lacrosse, tennis, or baseball, it is always stressful.

Senior Tommy Markey, a baseball player who committed to Fordham University, said, “During my recruiting process many different coaches, from different schools, and I would hop on a call with them and talk for about ten to fifteen minutes. They would ask about baseball and then my grades and how everything was going in my life.” Tommy then said, “It was a very stressful experience, balancing school while making sure I kept up-to-date with the coaches. The other thing that made it stressful was when the coaches came to my games.”

Lacrosse captain senior Ross Prince who is committed to Georgetown University, said, “It was both exciting and overwhelming at the same time. At midnight on September 1st of my junior year, which is when coaches can first start contacting student-athletes, the entire coaching staff of Ohio State FaceTimed called me and talked to me for a solid twenty five minutes. It was definitely an overwhelming feeling but also surreal at the same time.” Similar to Tommy, Ross felt his “recruiting process was very stressful because it is a huge decision to make.” He continued, “I mean I need to pick a school that best suits me and that will help me transition into the real world.”

Andrew Blum, a tennis player who is not yet committed, talked about his ongoing recruitment process. He stated, “One of my goals in life is to attend a great college and to play tennis there. I have been hopping on calls with coaches and they are coming to see me play. It is a very stressful time, I need to continue to play well with the coaches watching and keep my grades up.” Andrew continued, “I am very excited to continue this process and to see where it leads me.”
