This Fall, on November 20-22, Players will put on a production of The Phantom Tollbooth.
“The Phantom Tollbooth is a wildly imaginative adventure based on Norton Juster’s beloved book!” stated the email sent to all Upper School students.
The Phantom Tollbooth follows the story of a boy named Milo. When a tollbooth appears in his room, out of pure boredom, he drives his toy car through it. He soon discovers that it is magical and can take him to the Kingdom of Wisdom. The Kingdom of Wisdom is a magical realm divided into two cities: a city of numbers and a city of words. He travels through the kingdom and learns valuable lessons, all the while making friends along the way. Milo must learn to overcome his boredom and appreciate knowledge and wisdom, but it takes a journey through the Kingdom of Wisdom for him to realize this.
Everyone is excited for this production, including rising freshman Hannah Burke. “This kind of play can bring everyone together. Not just on stage, but off as well. In the play, everyone becomes friends, and I think that can manifest into real life,” said Burke ’29.
Many freshmen are ready to take on this new challenge, assume a bigger role, and move into the spotlight. The Phantom Tollbooth can support a large cast and has many interesting characters with different personalities. Characters like Tock and the Humbug are integral to the story. Tock is a protective friend, and the Humbug is a loyal buddy. Auditions will take place on Sunday, September 7.
The directors, crew, and actors are prepared to start this new production. Overall, it can be expected that this show will be wildly creative and a play to remember.
