The Middle School has a 5th grade production every year called “Limelights.” Limelights started in 2023, and has kept going since then. Mrs. Sasso, Mrs. Caraballo, and Mrs. Painter wrote and choreographed this year’s pre-show based on the musical Anastasia. Limelights is a good preparation if you are interested in the 6-8th Spotlights show. Rehearsals are about every other week on Friday and, sometimes on the weekends. In Limelights there is singing, dancing, and acting.
We asked Mrs. Sasso how Limelights got discovered and why they wanted to start the activity. She said, “A couple years ago, Mrs. Painter came to see my daughters in a play where they have a pre show with younger kids in it, and at the end of the show, Ms. Painter turned to me and said, ‘We should do this for fifth grade. Do you want to run the whole program?’ And I thought, oh, wow, that’s a lot of pressure. But we started to talk about it, and we developed it, and we decided this is a great opportunity for our 5th graders to get into drama, since they can’t start spotlights yet.”
We also asked a few students who were in Limelights what they liked or enjoyed about Limelights. Louisa Gellhorn said, “I really like doing my theater camp over the summer and I don’t have any theater programs over the school year so I think it’s really nice for me to do one of my favorite things.” Stella Torres said, “I like the dances and learning how to memorize lines for Spotlights next year.” Clara Bissonette added, “I like learning how we can work together on stage and just the whole thing because it’s really fun.’’
