Your favorite rapper showing up to your homecoming football game would be a dream come true…. It is a dream that came true for SCH Football at homecoming.
The team, fans of famous Philadelphia rapper OT7 Quanny, sent him a video of his song “Virgil 2” playing in their locker room. Quanny, who has roughly 235,000 followers on Instagram reposted the video and it racked up about 40,000 likes. A number of players on the team and in the video commented, asking Quanny to pull up to their homecoming game. The rapper kept his word.
On September 23, early in the second quarter of the SCH vs. Hill Homecoming football game, OT7 Quanny and his group of friends arrived in their sprinter van, as talked about in his song “Virgil 2” — “I’m in the sprinter just me and the brodies,” raps Quanny. Word spread quickly that the famous rapper had reached campus, and it didn’t take long for a flood of students and fans to surround him.
As Quanny’s older brother “Munna” said, the group was there to “show love.” And Quanny did exactly that, immediately bestowing his massive chain onto junior Seamus Hendrie, letting him wear it for the rest of the quarter. “Go Devils!” added Munna, after the game.
After a successful first half for SCH football, Quanny made his way to the locker room to show love to the team that had given him so much support. The team hustled outside to talk to the rapper. Senior Jayden Sumpter and junior Matt McTamney spoke with Quanny. Matt McTamney reported that “Dr. Dinkins came up and introduced himself.” Dr. Dinkins asked Jayden and Matt who they were with, and proceeded to give Quanny “a very formal handshake and Quanny pulled down his shiesty (ski mask)” and introduced himself. According to McTamney, “Dr. Dinkins said ‘it is great to have you out here and it’s great to see you in the community.’”When asked if the presence of OT7 Quanny at the game changed anything, McTamney declared that “it might be the only reason we won, ’cause we were so excited that Quanny pulled up.”
The SCH Blue Devils ended up winning their homecoming game 57-21.
