As the lone seniors on the Devils basketball team, nobody is more driven for an Inter-Ac title than Kam Waters and Keni Williams. They’ve come close before, but they’ve got one more shot to win one.
“[A championship] would mean a lot,” said Waters. “It would allow me to feel like I left a mark on this school.”

This Friday, the senior duo continued their conquest for that elusive title with a 62-46 dismantling of Haverford (2-3), moving them to 4-1 in the Inter-Ac. The game was rescheduled from Jan 11th due to scoreboard issues, and both teams were eager to finish the fight.
All week, head coach Julian McFadden had been telling his guys how impactful this game was. Despite all the games they’ve played, McFadden said that, “This is the biggest playoff game we’ve had yet.”
Haverford isn’t a team you can take lightly either. They run a pro-style offense, and that’s led them to big wins against Malvern, GA, and even Friends Select, who beat SCH earlier this season.
“This is a physical team, really well coached, can shoot the three…they’re good,” McFadden stated, wary of the Fords’ talent. Then, showing confidence in his guys, he said, “We’re approaching this with utmost confidence.”
Tenacity and hustle were the words floating around the Devils’ from the coaches to the players. The importance of this battle couldn’t be understated.
“With a team like [Haverford who can do a lot of different things offensively, you’ve gotta be able to counterbalance that with sheer effort, sheer energy,” McFadden insisted.
From the tip-off, the Devils’ effort was on full display. Haverford was hounded over and over, with the Devils tipping away and pickpocketing passes, keeping the Fords frustrated. And offensively, that tenacity shone through.

The Devils kept the Fords running, swinging the rock around with precise passes before taking high-percentage shots, keeping Haverford stressed and tired.
Williams had the best night of his career, drilling five-threes and dropping a career high 33 points, the most since Jaren Morton dropped 34 points against Malvern on February 10th, 2023.
“I kinda felt the groove,” Williams stated with a smile. “Y’know I had some games where I was out of rhythm, so I was due for one of those games.”
No sequence better represented the Devils’ tenacity than one at the end of the fourth quarter, where the Devils swung the ball around, ending in an easy layup for junior center Stewart Greenleaf. Immediately after, Waters stole a pass, going coast-to-coast before dropping a down monster one-hand jam.

When reminiscing about the play, Waters just laughed. “I just thought dunk that stuff,” He said with a grin. “I saw the crowd out of the corner of my eye, and I just had to dunk that.”
The two seniors powered the Devils to the dub, and were appropriately named Gametime Sports Players of The Game. Directly after the game, Waters took a hold of the mic, expressing that the Devils “are the underdogs.”
Despite being halfway through the Inter-Ac season, and sitting at second place behind Penn Charter, the Devils can’t rest just yet. With SCH at 4-1 in the Inter-Ac, and Penn Charter at 5-0, all eyes are on their next matchup on February 4th.
If each team keeps playing with this level of intensity and talent, a win could determine if SCH splits the title with Penn Charter, or if they’re sent out the of running. SCH is the only team this season to give Penn Charter a run for their money.
When asked about the season so far, Williams emphasized both he and Kam’s roles as seniors, saying that, “we kinda lead the team, show them anything is possible.”
The Devils can’t look too far forwards though. They’ve got two more tough Inter-Ac matchups this week: GA on Tuesday, and Haverford again on Friday.
Williams continued about this season’s start, noting that, “Last year we came up a little short, this year we kinda showing no matter who we on the floor with, it’s gonna be a good game no matter what.”
Now, the Devils will keep fighting, as Williams and Waters aim to etch their names into SCH history.
