President Trump on September 25th, signed an executive order to move US investors toward buying Tiktok from its parent company, ByteDance.
This order is among many other decisions by the Trump administration moving the US toward self-sufficiency.
Last year, former President Joe Biden signed a law that would ban TikTok if it were not sold to the US. Since then, Trump has removed the ban during his current term as President. A lot of students remember TikTok’s temporary ban, but most students have not heard anything since then. Senior Finn Cooper, head of the political action club, is up to date with US political news and had this to comment on the current state of TikTok: “I think it’s interesting that we’re seeing geopolitical affairs and major political situations play out over the life of an app that we use so often.”
The US government awaits the US investors and ByteDance to make a deal. Will TikTok be around to fulfill the next generation’s doom scrolling, or will the failure to make a deal be the end of TikTok?
