Newly appointed Campus Lantern web designer Niara Howell ’28 has spent the last two weeks creating a completely reimagined website for the publication. She first wanted to join the staff as a designer during last year, but was only able to attend the training sessions required at the start of the 2025-2026 school year. Now, after attending an hour-long session with a trainer from Sno, the website that The Campus Lantern publishes its stories on, she’s transformed the paper’s online presence.
Part of the reason Niara joined The Campus Lantern was as a result of her interest in editing and design.“I really got into editing,” said Niara. “I decided that doing that with The Campus Lantern would be the most fun thing to do, and it actually ended up being really interesting.”
Niara was also drawn towards working with journalists because she sees it as an opportunity to illuminate important stories. “I want the people that are a part of The Campus Lantern’s stories to be visible,” stated Niara.
After redesigning the publication’s online website, Niara reflected on the importance of having a website that was impressive in the eyes of readers. “I think it’s really important that it’s attractive to the people that do read our articles,” claimed Niara.
Readers of The Campus Lantern aren’t the only ones who have taken notice of Niara’s contributions, though. Members of the staff have been incredibly grateful that their work is being presented in a new light, crafted by a designer trained on utilizing the online Platform Sno. Reflecting on the staff’s positive opinions of her design work, Niara said, “I feel like when things look good, people feel good.”
Moving forward, Niara will continue working as The Campus Lantern’s web designer, updating the website’s design and content consistently. Readers of The Campus Lantern can expect consistently quality designs on the online publication for the foreseeable future.
