On Monday, December 1, select cast and crew in Players received an unforeseen and thrilling email, later followed by an all-school announcement and audition packet: the Spring musical, previously Suessical, has been changed to Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella (Original Broadway Cast Recording)! This new development came on the heels of another major change: Meghan Rogers, Choral Director of MSG Choir and US a cappella group Laurelei, is stepping back into the role of Director this spring. Rogers served as Director of Players from 2017 to 2023. In addition to directorial and show shifts, the Rec, formerly Players’ performing space and currently under renovation, is expected to be finished in time for Cinderella. The past two Players shows, Pippin and The Phantom Tollbooth, were put on in the Middle School Auditorium. While Players appreciates the stand-in, nothing is a substitute for the original, and Players is ecstatic at the promise of returning to their beloved Rec. “In the middle school, it doesn’t feel like a show. It feels like a middle school, basically,” stated sophomore and member of Players, Ansley Caliendo. “In the Rec, it can finally feel like we’re older and more mature.” Performing Arts at SCH is certainly entering a new (storybook) chapter; the show will get underfoot once the casting is finalized. Good luck rehearsing, Players, and we can’t wait to see how the shoe fits!
