On February 1, 2026, the temperature in Miami, was 35 degrees Fahrenheit, Miami’s coldest start to a February ever.
This unexpected time of cold temperatures came with a strange side effect. People on the streets have been coming across frozen iguanas.
Although they appear to be dead, these iguanas are just frozen. This is because iguanas are cold blooded animals, who lose muscle control without heat.
When the temperature rises, these iguanas will unfreeze, and go straight back to living a normal iguana life.
During this cold period, while these iguanas are paralyzed, people go out to collect them, getting them away from residential neighborhoods.
These iguanas are very invasive to Florida, and iguanas that have been collected will be euthanized, or become pets. As of now, over five thousand iguanas have been turned in.
