Dear Readers,
The Campus Lantern recently published an article concerning a lockdown at the neighboring school of Penn Charter. The story was reported to one of our writers by various Penn Charter students following the discovery of an unfounded threat at the school. The article aimed to inform SCH students who were concerned and worried about their fellow peers in the school close by. By providing a modicum of information about the alarming events taking place, we hoped to soothe worries and reduce panic. There was no intention to interfere with the Penn Charter community or to overcomplicate an already difficult-to-navigate situation. However, we acknowledge that the story muddled the messaging of the Penn Charter administration and caused stress for the community, and for that we are truly sorry.
The Campus Lantern’s mission statement is to provide “balanced, objective, accurate and relevant school, community, and global news reportage.” We intend to light the darkness, not add to it.
The editorial staff is revising its guidelines on complex topics and is dedicated to providing factual and safe news going forward.
Sincerely,
