Eagles sign new free agents in offseason; look to make Super Bowl run

The Eagles have been a good team in the recent years of their franchise. In 2018, backup quarterback Nick Foles was able to carry the Eagles to their first franchise Super Bowl. Since then, the Eagles have made the playoffs every year and made it back to the Super Bowl in 2022. Many believe this will be the year where the team is able to recreate their 2018 year and win the Super Bowl. In the 2024 offseason the Eagles have added DB Avonte Maddox, QB Will Grier, QB Kenny Pickett, LB Devin White, DE Bryce Huff, DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and RB Saquon Barkley.

To get a better understanding of how the SCH student body feels about the new free agent signings I asked three different students what they thought. First, senior Tucker DeLisle talked about which signing was the best in his eyes. “I really like that we got Saquon Barkley adding a good running back to the team.” He added, “With the Eagles offensive line being so good he might lead us to a championship.” Saquon Barkley was acquired by the Eagles during the offseason and agreed to a three-year $37.75 million contract. Most would say this is the best pickup the Eagles have had all off-season.

Next, senior Elio Colavita was asked what his favorite defensive pickup was. Elio said, “I really like that we got Gardner-Johnson back to Philadelphia.” He also said, “I was upset when they got rid of Haason Reddick but was happier when they signed Bryce Huff.” The Eagles were able to add big defensive players and build an even stronger veteran defense than what they had.

Junior Tommy Bass was happy with what the Eagles did in the offseason with their QB depth. They added two backup quarterbacks including Kenny Picket who was the Steelers starting quarterback last year and had an alright season. Tommy said, “I liked how they were able to get more QB depth because if Jalen needs to sit out a week or two they have someone to go to with experience.”

The SCH community positively reacted to these free agent signings and seem to like the bright future for the Eagles. Right now the Eagles are looked at as one of the Super Bowl favorites and fans are hoping for a productive season.
